Valentin Melnichuk Signs 4-year contract  Introduced to Media
After signing a 4-year deal with the Ukrainian Basketball Federation, new men’s National Team head coach Valentin Melnichuk was introduced to the media on Tuesday.
 
“I am happy a Ukrainian specialist of such a caliber is taking over the National Team”, said Federation’s President Alexander Volkov at the press-conference, “Valentin [Melnichuk] has been very successful with the Portugal Team lately, achieving high results with it”.

Ukrainian Basketball Federation Presidium held a meeting last week, during which the following specialists were appointed to coach the national teams:

Ukrainian Basketball Federation Presidium to Appoint NT’s Head Coach on November 22.
 
Ukrainian Basketball Federation Presidium is to hold its next meeting on November 22.
 
The main issue on the agenda is the appointing of the Head coach for both men’s and women’s National Teams.

Ukraine Falls to Denmark, Stays in Division A
 
Ukraine National Team lost their final game of the Eurobasket-2007 additional qualifying round to Denmark 90:85, still, they retained their place in the Division A.
 
The game was evenly matched during the first half resulting in a 40:40 draw at halftime. Ukraine started the 3rd quarter with a 7:0 run, but allowed the opponents to reply with a 26:10 blow to finish the stretch up by 9.

Ukraine Falls to Belgium. Lebedintsev Resigns
Ukraine National Team started the additional qualifying round for Eurobasket-2007 with a 45:70 loss to Belgium.
 
Following the Friendship Cup in Kiev and a friendly tournament in Estonia, team morale seemed to have boosted within Ukraine, unfortunately, it didn’t show in the disappointing loss to Belgium.

Ukraine National Team finished their last stage of preparations for the additional qualifying round for Eurobasket-2007 with an 87:65 win over Sports Power.

Ukraine’s head coach Vitaliy Lebedintsev allowed leaders Serhiy Lishchuk, Artur Drozdov and Evgen Podorvanniy to have some rest, while most of the deep reserves managed to feel the game action heading into the most important matches.

Ukraine NT Won 2 in Estonia

Ukraine National Team took part in an international friendly tournament that took part in Estonia.

The Ukrainian side won their opening contest against Estonia 70:68. Serhiy Lishchuk was the game’s top scorer with 27 points and 12 rebounds.

Lishchuk was once again fantastic the following day, but this time in a 69:80 loss to Latvia. He had 30 points and 14 rebounds.

Ukraine Takes Gold at Friendship Cup

Ukraine National Team took the first place in the “Friendship Cup”, which was held in Kyiv last weekend.

4 teams took part in the tournament: Ukraine, Ukraine – 2, Russia – 2 and Belarus.

After losing to Ukraine – 2 during the first match-day 59:73, Ukraine bounced back to beat Belarus 88:61 and, later, Russia 81:73.
